I’m writing these few lines without really knowing why. Perhaps it’s to overcome the fear. The cold. The dark. Despite the locks, the boards and the other devices, I can still hear the noise of the rain and the wind quite distinctly. Especially the low frequency growls of the thunder. Just as well my mobile battery is fully charged. I’m writing in the dark. The only light is that of the computer screen. With the monitor on low, from where I am, I can scarcely see to read what I write. Doesn’t matter. That way I hope the battery lasts as long as it can. I’m wearing all I was able to find. But I’m cold inside my body. I think it’s got to do with the dark. Lack of light seems to seep into the very marrow of the bone.
Darkness is cold. I’ve never felt so alone and such a prey to an uncertain future. Even if I know that help will come soon. Even if here I have all I need to tide me over for a few days. Food and drink. Some batteries for my torch. I’ve turned it off for now. It’s like living underground. I know there’s something out there. But this something isn’t friendly at all. A monster is eating up all we built. I’m lucky to be here, live here, where everything can resist the fury of the tornado. I try to imagine what it’s like out there, as the low frequencies continue to make the reinforced concrete, the wooden beams and the walls tremble. They sound like ghosts inside me. Then a few moments’ silence, even more uncanny than the hubbub I’ve been hearing these last few days. If I write I feel better. As if there were someone in here with me. I don’t know if I’ll ever really leave this refuge. I don’t know whether I’ll ever send this text to someone either. Maybe I’ll post it on some social network or other…

Care amiche e cari amici, Il buio e la meridiana (come già Max 5000) nasce per essere letto in mobilità. I racconti, i personaggi, la lunghezza delle storie sono pensati per un’edizione elettronica. Ecco perché ho deciso di non farne un’edizione cartacea. Se mai dovessero vedere la luce altri progetti saranno stampati e non ci sarà la versione elettronica. Se poi un editore mi chiedesse stampare le due raccolte potrei valutare questa possibilità, magari lavorando a un adattamento. Ma sarebbe comunque un’altra cosa.
E’ ora che le case editrici la smettano di fare cartello e di tenere altissimi i prezzi dei libri elettronici. Il libro digitale non ha le spese di carta e distribuzione, le voci che incidono maggiormente sul prezzo di copertina. Il mercato del libro elettronico è in crescita nonostante voi. Se continuate questa politica protezionistica non risolverete un bel nulla. Il libro cartaceo ha una storia diversa dalla versione elettronica. Sveglia! Ci sono libri importanti che ancora non hanno la versione elettronica. Vi ricordo che i diritti durano 70 anni…

Giovedì 6 marzo alle 21:15 presso il Foyer del Teatro Vascello (Roma, Via Giacinto Carini 78) sarà presentato Max 5000 il debutto nella narrativa di Marco Di Battista, giornalista, blogger e musicologo romano da anni attivo nella radiofonia e non solo.
Cinquemila battute per cinque minuti di lettura veloce quanto profonda, da qui il titolo di questa opera prima. Ogni racconto, infatti, non supera i 5000 caratteri. “Al principio della mia carriera di giornalista avevo un caporedattore molto bravo e un po’ burbero. Quando sapeva che stavo scrivendo un articolo che mi stava a cuore, mi guardava e mi urlava ‘non ti sbrodolare, max 5000 battute’. Ecco spiegata la scelta di intitolare così la raccolta”. Il volume esce contemporaneamente in tre lingue: italiano, inglese e francese. Dieci racconti brevi distribuiti su Amazon “perché non credo più al cartaceo e perché voglio sfuggire al gioco al massacro degli editori di oggi e della distribuzione. Spero che Max 5000 possa servire a guardarsi attorno e riconoscere negli altri le tracce di emozioni e sentimenti che sono anche in noi”. Questo ha dichiarato l’autore durante un’intervista.

L’attrice Raffaella Castelli leggerà uno dei racconti del libro.
